pjmurkin

Did you know that 1.3 billion tonnes of edible food is wasted globally every year? This has an enormous negative impact on our environment. Thankfully we can take action to make a significant difference. Check out Educator Jen’s zero food waste tips with this delicious African Peanut Stew! 😋

🌎 Adapt recipes by substituting or adding ingredients from your kitchen

🌎 Use best before dates as a general guideline. If food is stored correctly, it can often last longer. Rely on your senses and these guidelines - https://foodbankscanada.ca/best-before-or-expired-food-banks-questions-answered/

🌎 Keep seeds from recipe produce, such as bell peppers. Dry in the sun, plant and grow in your veggie garden or pots

🌎 Freeze excess chickpeas and aquafaba (chickpea liquid) for baking

🌎 Food that is beyond edible can be composted at home to make fertilizer for your garden

🌎 Use fresh produce that lasts longer from your own garden or local farmers market
