This recipe is super versatile, use in burgers, salads, wraps or even as a side with dipping sauce.😋 Seitan is similar to chicken, but has a much lower carbon footprint, so you can take climate action with every delicious bite! 🤩
You can find the key ingredient, vital wheat gluten at your local bulk foods store. Keep an eye out because it might be called gluten flour. 🌱
***Simply Sensation Seitan***
Ingredients:
🌱3/4 cups vital wheat gluten (also called gluten flour)
🌱1/4 cup all purpose flour
🌱1 tsp vegetable broth
🌱3/4 tsp onion powder
🌱3/4 tsp garlic powder
🌱1/4 tsp salt
🌱2/3 cup water
🌱1 tbsp oil
Method:
🌱 Fill a pot with an inch or two of water and bring it to a light boil with a steamer basket.
🌱 In a medium bowl, combine wheat gluten, flour, vegetable broth powder, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and water to form a dough.
🌱 Lightly grease the steamer basket.
🌱 Tear off bite-sized pieces of the seitan dough and arrange them in a single layer in the steamer basket.
🌱 Cover and steam for 10 minutes.
🌱 Heat oil in a pan and fry the steamed seitan pieces
🌱Add your preferred sauce or spices. For this burger Lilli used BBQ sauce and ½ tsp liquid smoke to coat the seitan.
🌱Serve on burgers, wraps, salads or as a side.
